USS Silversides Museum

The USS Silversides Submarine Museum has partnered with the Lorraine F. and Fred S. Bertsch Jr. Foundation to bring a scholarship opportunity to West Michigan Area. The foundation promotes service at the community, state, and federal level through education at a college or trade school.

The mission of the USS Silversides Submarine Museum is to honor the men and women of the military, preserve military history and provide experiences that educate the public about past and present military history and technology.

This scholarship opportunity is for any of the following individuals who:

  • Have honorably served in the military
  • Currently serving in the military
  • A member of the ROTC Program
  • A military dependent (child or spouse)
  • Those pursuing a career in medical, teaching, or emergency services such as police, firefighting, or other EMTs.
  • Complete Application and submit by September 15, 2024.
  • From the West Michigan Area
  • Recommendation letter from an educator or program leader who is familiar with your service to the community
  • Color head shot suitable for website and social media posting
  • Attach a personal statement of 300-500 words in response to one of the following prompts:
    1. What does the word “leadership” mean to you and how have you demonstrated your definition of leadership in you school, community, or the military?
    2. Describe how being a child or spouse of a military service member has influenced your educational goals.
    3. How has the military shaped your life?
    4. What would you like civilians to know or better understand about the military or career field you are going into?
    5. Why are you choosing the career field you are choosing
